William Hogarth's plate of the whirling dervishes inside a mosque, from La Motraye's Travels (London, 1724), redrawn as a line engraving in sepia on warm cream paper.
The original
“The Inside of a Mosque, the Dervishes Dancing (Aubry de La Motraye's "Travels", London, 1724, vol. I, pl. 16)” by William Hogarth (British, 1697–1764), 1723–24, is in the public domain. The image comes from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which shares it under CC0 (no rights reserved).
The print
Tiraj reinterprets the plate as a burin engraving: parallel lines that follow the turning skirts, the lattice windows and the columns. The ink is sepia, the warm brown of 18th-century book plates.
The paper tone is part of the artwork; print on white matte paper. The warm cream sheet and the printing texture are printed into the file.
What’s included
5 high-resolution JPEG files (sRGB), one per proportion:
| Ratio | Print sizes | Pixels | Resolution |
| 3:2 | 6×4, 12×8, 18×12, 24×16, 30×20, 36×24 in | 8592×5728 px | 239 dpi at 36×24 |
|---|
| 4:3 | 8×6, 12×9, 16×12, 24×18 in | 7200×5400 px | 300 dpi at 24×18 |
|---|
| 5:4 | 5×4, 10×8, 20×16 in | 6000×4800 px | 300 dpi at 20×16 |
|---|
| 14:11 | 14×11 in | 4200×3300 px | 300 dpi at 14×11 |
|---|
| ISO A | A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 | 7794×5505 px | 235 dpi at A1 |
The 3:2 file is 239 dpi at 36×24 in; the ISO A file is 235 dpi at A1 and 300 dpi or more at the smaller sizes. The other files are 300 dpi at their largest size.
The 5:4, 14:11 files keep the whole picture with a paper margin, because cropping would cut into the subject; the other files are cropped slightly to fill the sheet.
Printing tips
Use heavyweight white matte paper (200 gsm or more, archival matte or cotton rag). Print at 100% / actual size, not 'fit to page', and pick the file that matches your frame. This is a landscape artwork: all files are horizontal.
Colours can vary slightly between screens and printers.
