George Brookshaw's plums from Pomona Britannica (1806), reprinted as a three-colour risograph in hunter green, sunflower and burgundy over a dark ground on cream paper.

The original

“Pomona Britannica: No. 17 - Plums” by George Brookshaw (British, 1751–1823), 1806, is in the public domain. The image comes from the Cleveland Museum of Art, which shares it under CC0 (no rights reserved).

The print

Tiraj separates the aquatint into three risograph drums, hunter green, sunflower and burgundy. The three inks overprint into the near-black ground of the original plate; the leaves stay green and the plums keep their purple bloom.

The paper tone is part of the artwork; print on white matte paper. The warm cream sheet and the printing texture are printed into the file.

What’s included

All files are 300 dpi at their largest size.

The 2:3, ISO A files keep the whole picture with a paper margin, because cropping would cut into the subject; the other files are cropped slightly to fill the sheet.

Printing tips

Use heavyweight white matte paper (200 gsm or more, archival matte or cotton rag). Print at 100% / actual size, not 'fit to page', and pick the file that matches your frame.
Colours can vary slightly between screens and printers.
