Redouté's crown imperial from Les Liliacées as a cyanotype photogram: a white flower silhouette on brushed Prussian blue.

The original

“Crown Imperial (Fritillaria imperialis), from "Les Liliacées"” by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (French, 1759–1840), 1802–16, is in the public domain. The image comes from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which shares it under CC0 (no rights reserved).

The print

Tiraj re-imagines the plate as a cyanotype photogram, the way Anna Atkins made her plant studies in the 1840s: the plant lies on the sensitised sheet, the sun turns the paper Prussian blue, and the plant's shadow stays white. The crown of leaves, the hanging bells and the long stem read as one white shape, with the stipple of the engraving left as a faint texture. The blue reads as hand-brushed onto cream paper, with dry-brush edges and uneven coating. A digital print file, made from a public domain museum image.

The paper tone is part of the artwork; print on white matte paper. The cream sheet, the brushed Prussian blue and its uneven coating are printed into the file.
