Hiroshige's Hamamatsu station from the Tokaido road, reprinted as a three-colour risograph in blue, bright red and yellow on cream paper.

The original

“Hamamatsu, from the series "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido (Tokaido gojusan tsugi)," also known as the Tokaido with Poem (Kyoka iri Tokaido)” by Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797–1858), c. 1837/42, is in the public domain. The image comes from the Art Institute of Chicago, which shares it under CC0 (no rights reserved).

The print

Tiraj separates the woodblock print into three risograph drums, blue, bright red and yellow, with riso grain and a slight misregistration between the layers. Like the original woodblock, the picture is built from flat layers of ink.

The paper tone is part of the artwork; print on white matte paper. The cream sheet and riso grain are printed into the file.

The 3:2 file is 285 dpi at 36×24 in and 300 dpi or more at the smaller sizes. The other files are 300 dpi at their largest size.

Every file keeps the whole woodblock image, including the poem, signature and title cartouche, with a paper margin around it; nothing is cropped.

Printing tips

Use heavyweight white matte paper (200 gsm or more). Print at 100% / actual size, not 'fit to page', and pick the file that matches your frame. This is a landscape artwork: all files are horizontal.
Colours can vary slightly between screens and printers.

License

The original is in the public domain (verified with the museum’s API on 2026-11-06). The Tiraj interpretation is ours: the files are for personal use only. Print them for your own home or as a gift; please don’t resell, share or redistribute the files or sell prints made from them. Full license.

Digital download: nothing is shipped, frame not included. Colours vary slightly between screens and printers.
